Pine Cone is a District-wide reading incentive program in partnership with the West Bloomfield Township Public Library, for students enrolled in first or second grade. This dynamic program features a variety of books carefully selected by district librarians. The list encompasses a large variety of genres, diverse topics, and high interest subject manner.
All first & second grade students will attend the Pine Cone Kick-Off Assembly the week of December 2nd, 2019. Students will also be told of the incentives for achieving each of the four levels of success:
Level 1 (5 books): A bookmark Level 2 (10 books): A prize from the iCenter treasure chest Level 3 (15 books): A restaurant coupon Level 4 (20 books): A free book at the next Book Fair (up to $5)
Please keep in mind, the goal is to READ, READ, and READ some more!
This program will run from November 25th, 2019 through March 6th, 2020. Students are encouraged to read as many of the books on the list as they can. Due to varying reading abilities, the books may be read to, with, or by your child. After each book is read, your child will complete a Pine Cone Book Report.
Each report is then signed by a parent and returned to his or her teacher for credit. When your child receives credit for completing the book report, he or she can check it off on their Pine Cone bookmark!
It is the recommendation of the district librarians that parents and teachers work with students to find books that will peak their interest. The main goal of this program is to encourage a love of reading. The books are available for checkout from the West Bloomfield Township Public Library, the Elementary School iCenters, and the classrooms.
As a special culminating event, all students will be invited to an assembly in March 2020 to meet Jarrett Krosoczka , one of our Pine Cone authors.
